 Broiler chicken farming has proven reliable over the recession period with income returns continually increasing.  Increases have been forecast for the  next two years and then they are moving to increases by CPI. Tegel Foods Limited are just closing negotiations with the Growers Group through out New Zealand on a new five year roll over Growing Agreement.  This is about to introduced in the near future.  Demand through out the world has increased for chicken meat as the medical profession calls for people to eat the leaner protein.  Chicken has been consumed in New Zealand for around 100 years, when the consumption of beef was much higher.  By 2011 chicken consumption has caught up and according to some tables it has passed beef.

USA has beef slightly ahead of chicken where NZ has chicken above beef, so the graphs are close.
